EIA | Grasim Industries and Siegwerk India Projects Sail Through Approval Despite Mounting Public Environmental Concerns
EAC Nods IFFCO's Amendment, Pon Pure Speciality Chemical, Kashma Agro, IG Petrochemicals, Warren Remedies, and Panchsheel Intermediates Proposals
Recently, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Industry 3 Sector projects made approved amendments in the Environmental Clearance granted to Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) for allowing the addition of Nano-Fertilizer (Nano DAP) to its existing fertilizer unit with a production capacity of 36500 kL per year in Kandla Unit, Kutch District, Gujarat, prompts questions about the thorough evaluation and consideration of EIA reports. Notably, the EAC chose to omit the condition mandating the development of a Greenbelt over 33% of the premises, as IFFCO drew attention to a clause 3.2.4 of Deliberations by EAC in a meeting, emphasizing that “during recent deliberations, EAC members appeared satisfied with the company's justifications for compliance with the existing greenbelt”, raising concerns about the consistency and rigor of the evaluation process.
In its 73rd meeting held on 16th -17th January 2024, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Industry 3 Sector projects, chaired by Prof. (Dr.) A.B. Pandit, evaluated various industrial expansion proposals seeking Environmental Clearance (EC). EA brings you a detailed note on significant points.
